music. it was the most amazing thing. it could calm you down when you were angry, make you happy where you were sad. it could be beautiful or haunting, fast or slow, all four at once. it was a mysterious thing, yet so very open and understandable. there was no emotion that music could fit to, no occasions where it was inappropriate. it was something that resonated with the soul and opened up hearts.
riley was pouring his own heart out as he played, stroking each key gently but firmly. there wasn't a single mistake, not a fumble over a key nor an overlooked note. he wasn't playing anything, yet he was playing everything. the tune wouldn't be recognized, but it would speak volumes. because it came straight from his heart, his very soul even. every bit of frustration, all the anger, the longing. it poured forth with each press of a key.
the sounds emitted from the piano were soft, not loud but definitely heard. one minute slow, the next fast as lightning.
he was frustrated. he'd confessed, albeit it was only a strong crush he had, and was shot down quicker than he could blink. he was angry. he'd known before the crush had even gotten that far that it was useless but he had let himself grow too fond of the older male. he was filled with a sense of longing. he had his family, it was true, but he'd always wanted to find someone else that would love him no matter what.
there had been a part of him that hoped it would work out. he'd tried to keep it down but it hadn't worked. and now he was left feeling as though everything had been nothing more than a lie. had it been completely one-sided? had nash not cared about him at all? he usually enjoyed a bit of abuse but this was too much. his eyes burned but he refused to shed even a tear.

She hated the quietness something about just made her feel uneasy, Deedee only wish that something would kill it. At that moment someone most had heard her wish. She could hear someone playing something. No not something but a piano and they was playing there heart out .
Deedee didn't notice she had stop walking and started listening to the music until she couldn't feel her legs move anymore. She wanted to know who was playing but didn't want to disturbed him and or her. Pushing opening the classroom door lightly she slide in not being notice. She stood in the background for a minute before she started to move froward a bit. The melody was just wonderful, it as if it could take you to another world if you had close your eye's. But then it had just a hint of sadness.
Moving a little closer she could finally see who it was that was playing, letting a small smile come to her face she should have knew it was Riley the one that was playing. He was a great player shoot even better the her she had to say. Before she could even make her way back out she hit her foot on a chair making a loud noise that made him stop and looked up at her. "Umm Hi I'm sorry if had disturbed you, I was outside in the hallway and I heard you playing" She told him giving him a smile.
"It was wonderful really, And I just had to get a better listen up closer." Deedee explain to him hopping that he would understand. She couldn't help but notice the look on his face as he turned to her. It was like as if he was about to let a tear out of his eye's.
She was about to ask if something was wrong but didn't was to sound like she was noise or anything, It was just that she hated to see anyone sad."Um please don't think I'm being rude and all but is everything ok with you?" |

riley was so entranced by the music that he didn't notice someone entering the room. at least, not until a loud sound permeated the room. like a chair or table sliding hard against the floor. He tensed, his fingers ceasing to move, turning to look in the direction the obtrusive noise came from. He recognized her instantly, as if he could ever forget a face, and he forced a smile to his face. nothing special, just the small smile that he normally held in class. a friendly yet distant grin that neither asked others to talk to him nor pushed them away. his normally flirtatious manner was the only thing missing, but he hadn't often displayed that in class anyway.
she apologized, though it was quite unnecessary. it wasn't as if he'd been trying to keep quite, or keep others away from the sounds he'd made. it was true that it had been a very personal melody, but he would never turn away an audience. all the same, he took the apology with a nod, "it's quite alright, i don't mind at all." besides, it wasn't as if she'd never heard him play before. she, and the rest of the orchestra, had heard him many a time, pouring his heart into everything he played. the only change was that this piece wasn't one you'd find on paper anywhere.
he stood up, careful not to move the bench as he did so. there were many answers he could give her, though the most revolved around some lie or another. a few were meant to divert attention from himself and one or two were honest enough. it all came down to what he'd prefer to do. lying was out, he didn't like to lie when asked something directly. so the toss up was between answering seriously or answering with a question of his own. the former wasn't his usual style, he was big on talking about his feelings (that was, after all, what had caused his current emotional termoil to begin with), but he felt she would like the latter option at all.
so, with that debate running quickly through his head, he stepped around the bench and rested his hands within the single pocket of his red hoodie. his black boots made a soft clacking sound with ever step, the noise reverberating around the room. coming to a stop a few feet away from his classmate, he finally settled on the truth. or at least a small portion of it. he took a breath, tears vanishing from his eyes as he looked up.
"just a little heartbreak, nothing i can't handle."

IT'S JUST Ugh heartbroken was the one thing she hated about high school, and what made it worse is when you have to see the person everyday or something. Deedee gave him a weak smile when he said that it's nothing he couldn't handle. But still it suck that he was. No one should be hurt by someone else especially if they liked the person.
"Well if you like you can talk about, I'm here to lend a ear." She said to him. Deedee hope that he won't thinking that she was just being and noise and wanted to all up in his business. Because it was nothing like that at all. She just wanted to make sure that he was ok. Everyone had the right to be happy that's what her dad always told her. And if she saw someone unhappy she always tried to make them happy.
It was just something she did ever since she was little and her dad was alive.

standing there, hands in his pocket, he felt a nit apprehensive. the flirtatiousness he usually felt wasn't there, he wasn't as okay as he would pretend to be, and he'd just told someone that he'd actually experienced heartbreak. there was an unsettling feeling in his stomach, one that was telling him to find a way to change the subject. but his head and heart wouldn't let him do that. because he had a feeling it wouldn't work even if he tried.
riley wasn't one to talk about things like this though. he kept love locked away, not letting it out easily or often. talking about it was like opening that lock, leaving the floodgate unguarded and a chance for the emotion to slip out again. he wouldn't do it again. he wouldn't fall so hard like that, not a second time. leaving off those ties made things so much simpler, easier. less painful. of course, he'd never stop looking for that one special person. they'd just need to work a bit harder to get him to open up to the possibility of a future.
but, for now, he needn't worry about things like that. he didn't need some long-term commitment. he didn't want one. he'd go back to how he'd been before that silly confession of his. eventually. it'd probably take a few days, he was sure, but he'd get back there all the same.
"there isn't much to say... it all works about the same, yeah? i confessed, he told me to get lost. i knew that's how it'd end but i did it anyway. stupid, huh?"
there was a smile on his face the entire time. he didn't even let it falter, preferring not to show just how hurt he really was. he'd play it off like nothing, simply because he'd said it was nothing. that and he wasn't keen on bearing his soul in a manner such as this. the only way he did that was his music, not that other's could quite understand what he was saying through such a medium. but that was okay, they didn't have to know.
"so what brought you to this door anyway?"

That just had to suck that happen to him, and to be honest she knew how it felt to be turned down by someone you grow to like and maybe even fell for. "No it won't stupid at all, You liked the guy and he told you to get lost like a a**hole would had done." She looked to the floor but back up to him.
There was a smile on his face as she looked to him. Deedee could tell that the smile wasn't real but she won't going to be the one to tell him that. It won't her right to and besides she could had been wrong. She was before and that ended badly. But with this one she knew it was. Letting out a small sigh she started to about how hurt she was when was turned down. The only thing that got her through it all was her piano and her singing, then that's when it hit her. The same way she had got over was the same way he was getting over it. Yet again her mom was right. Music could heal anything but it only take time.
She snap out of her thinking when Riley had asked her what brought her to the door. "Oh will I was looking for the music teacher, I was coming to practice a song that I have been singing for a while." She blushed a little as she said it. Not a lot people knew that Deedee could sing. But the ones that did knew she could sing her heart out when she wanted to. When ever she did sing some people that was walking in the hallway would hear her and come in and sit and listen until that song was over. |

his smile faltered, just a tiny bit, before he caught himself. he had been about to frown at her, but that would do little good. she hadn't actually called nash anything, there was no reason to be upset about it. especially when she was right. he had been rather rude about things after the confession. he'd metaphorically ripped riley's heart out and then stomped on it. logically speaking, the obsidian-haired teen shouldn't have been bothered by her words at all. but sometimes logic wasn't what did the thinking or the acting. sometimes the heart reacted to things first and his was still a broken mess that would take up for nash in an instant.
it was hard, but he said nothing about it. there was no use in calling him a good guy. or saying that he wasn't an ass at all. or getting upset over it. nothing the teen could have said would have been a good defense. it would have only served to make him look like a fool.
taking his mind off of all that, he nodded his head and took note of the girl's blush. normally, he might have teased but right now he simply let it go. he had no will to flirt, things like that could wait for another day. for now, there were more serious things to do. like finding a way to keep his mind occupied while letting his feelings out into the open. he needed to continue playing the piano. that was all there was too it. and there seemed to be a great way to do just that.
"you can practice all you want without a teacher, can't you? if it's music you need, i can play anything."
riley was more than serious about that. he really could play anything on a piano, so long as it didn't need more than two hands. he could adapt anything into a piece for the piano, no matter the style of music it was. he didn't need to play anything special to pour out his heart, just playing did that. happy or sad, any tune could make him feel much better. and if it also helped someone else with something, then why not?

But he was right he could play anything she saw that first hand in class one day. The teacher was running late and everyone was just doing their own thing and Riley was on the piano playing anything that anyone would call out. And he played it better then the original song.
She didn't want him to know that she was just a little shy to sing for him. All the other people she had sung for she will didn't notice that was there until the last minute when the song was over and done with. Letting out a small sigh Deedee nodded to him. "Will ok, The song is called Next to me if you don't know it I have music sheet if you need. She told him.
Deedee walked over to her bag that she had drop at the door. Kneeing down she started to go through the bag looking for were she had put at. After a few minutes of tearing the bag apart almost she finally found it in the side pocket. Standing up she headed back over to him and headed him the sheet music.
It won't a hard song to learn and she was pretty sure that he could play it. The only hard part was the singing that she had to do. With that she walked over to the piano and waited for to come over and start. |

"it's no trouble. i was playing before, right? i wasn't planning to leave anytime soon."
indeed he wasn't. he knew that playing music would help to alleviate the pain he was feeling, more so if it also helped someone else. he rather enjoyed making others happy, though it didn't show nearly as often as his need to tease and play with people. but he was who he was and that wouldn't be changing. it just happened that he found it hard to show off all those nice qualities he had. most of the time.
there had been one day where he'd played countless song requests on the piano, a day when the teacher hadn't been around. it had been rather nice, testing himself while giving them the joy of hearing whatever they wanted. even the songs he hadn't known before the request was made. he'd listened to the song one on the person's music player and then he'd played it himself. he was a virtuoso, after all, and only had to hear things once to get it down.
but there seemed to be another reason she didn't want him to play for her. she had been there that day so she knew how talented he was. how willing he was to play. so what could it be? did she not like to sing in front of other people? he'd always been so good at the things he did and he'd never felt shy about doing those things in front of others. be it playing the piano, reciting things, or even speaking one of the other languages he knew. often times, he'd slip in an english word or two without even realizing it. but english was his native tongue so that wasn't so shocking.
he hadn't heard the song before. he took the sheet music from her hand, eyes roving the page and his brain taking in all it had to offer. it didn't take him long before he'd placed the paper on a nearby table, moving back to the piano and re-taking his seat on the bench. "here we go then, love. the final word, spoken in his language of birth, was soft and gentle, reflecting the smile upon his lips as he began to play the tune she needed for the song she was going to sing.

"you won't find him drinking at the tables rolling dice and staying out til 3 you won't ever find him being unfaithful you will find him, you'll find him next to me
you won't find him trying to chase the devil for money, fame, for power, out of grief you won't ever find him where the rest go you will find him, you'll find him next to me
next to me, ooooh next to me, ooooh next to me, ooooh you will find him, you'll find him next to me"
Before she started on the next verse she had close her eye's. She did that that from time to time when she started really feeling the song, even a smile came to her lips."when the money's spent and all my friends have vanished and i can't seem to find no help or love for free I know there's no need for me to panic cause i'll find him, i'll find him next to me
when the skies are grey and all the doors are closing and the rising pressure makes it hard to breathe well, all i need is a hand to stop the tears from falling I will find him, I'll find him next to me
next to me, ooooh next to me, ooooh next to me, ooooh I will find him, I'll find him next to me"
At the last verse of the song she decided to open her eyes up. It was like the last part meant so much to her. Which it did, everytime she got to that part she would think of her dad and all the good time that they shared. "when the end has come and buildings falling down fast when we spoilt the land and dried up all the sea when everyone has lost their heads around us you will find him, you'll find him next to me
next to me, ooooh next to me, ooooh next to me, ooooh you will find him, you'll find him next to me
next to me, ooooh next to me, ooooh next to me, ooooh you will find him, you'll find him next to me"
When she was done sing she turn to Riley and smiled big, It was one of the best practice that she have ever done and he was the one to thank for.

it was a lovely tune, soft and heartfelt. the lone piano was soon accompanied by lyrics, the words just as heartfelt as the music. he realized early on that the lyrics could have more than one meaning behind them, different from person to person. he saw it as a song dedicated to a lover who didn't stray, why didn't need to gamble or drink because he was happy by his beloved's side.
riley didn't feel as though that was the meaning of the song for deedee though. the way she belted it out, closed her eyes, smiled softly. it felt nothing like the vibe you'd get from someone singing of a lover. a loved one, perhaps. he could see where that meaning held true to the song as well.
an unconditional love, one that would never leave, one that would be there no matter the circumstances. perhaps a parent. no. a father. one who was always there for you when you needed him. or maybe a father who is only there in spirit, because he's passed on and no longer resides in the world of the living. then it would hold even truer.
his musings led to his own eyes closing, playing every key with a master's precision. the music, instrument and voice alike, reverberated around the room. it held a soft echo, one that enhanced the sound beautifully. one could expect nothing less of a room dedicated to the orchestra though. it had to have marvelous acoustics.
when the song came to an end and his fingers ceased their playing, he looked up. bringing his hands together a few times in applause, he grinned.
"brava~. it doesn't sound to me that you needed practice at all, love/

She was really glad that he like it and that she sound like she didn't need to practice. The song made her think of dad every time she sung it. It was one thing that she could remember him by.
"The music teacher said that they want me to sing this song for the Ouran fair, But I don't know yet."She said with a shrugged her shoulders. Singing won't problem it was how would everyone react to the song really. Which she didn't care if they liked it or not but it just how some people would assume by what the song mean to her. She had already got into it with one girl saying that no one would ever love her that much as it said in the song. Deedee had told her off and what ever it still made her just a little mad how some people would assume stuff instead of asking it. |

the obsidian-haired teen slid to the side a bit, making a little more room for the girl to sit. when the song had come to an end, he'd stopped playing. but now that the room had become quiet and still, he continued to press lightly at the keys. a semi-random rhythm began to play, many musical pieces being melded together. "no thanks needed. but you're welcome anyhow." a rather peaceful smile formed upon his lips as played, simply enjoying the sounds his favorite instrument had to offer.
the ouran fair wasn't all that far off. he felt she'd done a plenty good job, that she was perfectly ready to sing it for the fair. but he also got the feeling that wasn't quite sure. not because she was worried she'd mess up, but because she wasn't sure how everyone else would take it. "i'll be your personal pianist then. that way you won't need to worry about a thing." he grinned over at her. "the lyrics might lead to misunderstandings but what do those people matter when you know what they really mean?" his music had no lyrics, normally. it was much easier to misinterpret. but it always gave him a bit of comfort knowing that only his meaning mattered.
"and anyway. those with a musical ear can tell the truer meaning behind any musical piece. that one means a lot to you. your father, right?"

YOU'RE NEVER GONNA WIN THE FIGHT. JUST HOLD ONTO ME, I'LL HOLD ONTO YOU. IT'S JUST As Riley started to play a random tune on the piano she sat back and just enjoy it. Deedee even started humming along, letting small bits and pieces of lyrics come to her head. "Really you'll play with me when I sing the song?" She smiled big and leaned over and hugged him. "Thank You So Much!!" She had forgot she was hugging him and let him go. Deedee was just happy that she was going to have the best piano player in school play with her.
"Yeah your right about that some, people would just guess the song means one way but it mean a totally another way to the person singing it." She looked down to the keys and started to play along with him.
Deedee hoped that it would take her mind off of the whole people assuming thing. She really needed to stop getting mad over it. Her mother always told let people think what they want as long as you knew the truth.
She had stop play along with him when he asked if the song was about her dad. Looking up from the key she let a smile come to lips. "Yeah it is. The song just remind me of him so much when he was alive. He would always make sure that my mom and I was ok and good." As she thought about it made her smiled more. " Before he died he told that no matter what he will always be next to me when I need him." Before a tear could even crawl out of the corner of her eye she wiped it away. |

"of course." she hugged his rather suddenly, belting out a thank you and realizing a bit later that the hug had lasted longer than she must have meant it too. at first, his surprise at the embrace was evident, eyes widening a fraction, but he soon relaxed. he didn't receive hugs all that often. not the normal friendly ones that said thank you or hello or anything like that. he couldn't help chuckling at the fact. "you're welcome."
allowing her more space upon the piano's keyboard, he moved his hands a bit further down, continuing to play whatever tune came to mind. from happy and upbeat to sad and mellow, everything in between. it was natural that some people would hear one meaning in a song while others heard something completely different. some found personal meanings behind music where others, artist including, could have found it to mean something completely impersonal. music was so diverse. no song held the same exact meaning for everyone, though some came close.
he saw no problem with people thinking what they wanted. but some people took it too far. they'd jump to conclusions, spread rumors, make fun of you. they'd tell you the song must not ring true or that it fits you perfectly. neither being a complement in those situations. people were cruel. they didn't care about how others felt. like everything, there were some exceptions. he, for one, didn't cause pain in such a way. it was true that he liked being a little rough at times, but he could just hurt someone's feelings and not feel bad about it. likewise, he wasn't particularly fond of someone else doing that either. not even to him.
being the masochistic boy that he was, he enjoyed all kinds of pain and humiliation. liked some rude words here and there. but being treated in such a way for pleasure and being abused were two separate things. that's probably the sole reason he kept his distance from jinguuji hayate. he didn't want someone that would always treat him unfairly, someone that would never actually care about him.
the lack of extra hands playing along with him pulled him from his thoughts. a good thing, probably. because his notes had begun to take on a rather intense sounds. he mellowed it back out quickly upon realizing that, moving into a soft and gentle tune. smiling, he turned his attention back to deedee. he couldn't really relate, his parents were alive and well and had never been around quite enough for him to feel that way about them. his twin brother could maybe be seen in such away, but even he didn't hang around as much anymore.
"i can't relate the song to a family member, personally. my parents stay busy and aren't around too much. my brother's around but he's just as busy, really. i don't hav-" he stopped abruptly, realizing that he did have someone he could relate the song to. a certain history teacher, dimitri. always there when he needed him. always the one that the teen ran too. it was far different than her meaning behind the song. for his own personal meaning was nothing close to a familial bond between father and child. thinking about that man made his earlier troubles seem to melt away. why had he been so torn about that guy? relationships outside of dimitri never lasted long anyway. maybe because he hadn't gotten his way? "i do have someone that the song speaks to me about though. and i'm inclined enough to see that our situations are different. it wasn't hard to figure out it was for your father.."
riley let out a short laugh. he'd probably said too much. normally, he wouldn't have mentioned the teacher at all. it was a dangerous topic. people didn't accept things like that. not that he really cared about what anyone thought, but he didn't want to cause the man any trouble. it was a little late to care about that now. while he hadn't mentioned any names, he figured what he had said might lead to questions. especially since he'd been so upset about another guy before. it would be okay though. she didn't seem like she run off telling everyone. and she'd already shared things with him as well.
"he sounds like he was really a great man. i'm sorry that he can't be here, physically."
