fluffy white clouds floated lazily across the sun, and the resulting shadows crept into the classroom until dragged away by the returning rays of brilliant sunlight. amethyst colored eyes watched with undisguised longing as the silhouette of an unidentifiable bird soared through the air. with great effort, the teen tore his gaze away from the inviting, limitless domain known as the afternoon sky. his eyes settled on the teacher whose exaggerated motions seemed like the jerky dance of a puppet being manipulated by an amateur puppeteer, but he supposed everyone in the classroom moved with the same disjointed manner. petal pink lips twisted into a frown while setsuna tapped his mechanical pencil against his open notebook; however, when his teacher’s gaze landed on him, he ceased all movement and prayed to all the deities that the man would not ask him a question. his petite figure tensed as the seconds ticked by. silence descended upon the room like a heavy cloak until the teacher turned his attention to the girl seated next to setsuna, and the blackette visibly relaxed as the teacher voiced his question. the girl proved her inattention with her failure to respond. he studied her paper and immediately noticed the abundance of doodles. one of the sketched images looked oddly like a broken heart. he shifted to lean closer to her and nearly screamed at the name written under the image; however, he managed to remain silent by biting down on his bottom lip.
when he moved to regain his prior position, his pencil rolled off his desk and hit the tiled floor, and the object continued to roll until it hit one of the metal legs attached to his neighbor’s desk. blood rushed to his pallid cheeks as the class turned to look at him. in his mind, their apathetic miens transformed into grins of wicked delight, and setsuna visibly wilted in his seat. he lowered his gaze to rest on the ground while letting his bangs shift to obscure his face from their prying eyes and hide his burning cheeks. embarrassment flooded his senses even as his neighbor reached down and grabbed his pencil. when she held out the pencil to cross the gap between their desks, the blackette flinched and attempted to curl in on himself. he wanted to curl into a ball and disappear into a deep, dark cave. the bats would never be able to see nor laugh at him. the professor cleared his throat, and like emotionless puppets, his classmates returned to their previous activities. setsuna released a shaky breath and accepted his pencil from the girl. when she turned her attention back to her doodles, the aspiring photographer pressed his forehead against his palm. his fingers clutched at the ink black strands of hair. tension slowly evaporated from his body until he managed to regain a sense of inner peace. eventually, he mustered up the courage to look up, and his violet hued eyes immediately focused on the ticking clock. ten more minutes, a sickly sweet voice in his mind murmured.
pale fingers wrapped around his pencil and settled the granite point on his blank paper. lines appeared on the paper as the pencil moved across the page. slowly, the seemingly random marks formed into the image of a puppet with only one string connecting his lifeless body to the higher power known as his human controller. setsuna barely managed to stifle his laughter because the image reminded him of how his classmates rarely thought for themselves; they allowed themselves to become mindless sheep whose survival hinged on the capabilities of society. maybe a wolf needed to drop in and force them to look at their lives. the blackette frowned at the turn in his thoughts, and he forced himself to focus on his artwork. photography was his preferred medium for releasing his creative energy; however, he rarely managed to fight against his rather random urges. setsuna froze as the school bell rang. wide amethyst hued eyes glanced at the clock, and he pouted due to the audacity of time. time waited for no one. with practiced ease, the blackette began placing his possessions back into his backpack.
before closing his bag, he pulled out the list of items that the council compiled yesterday during their brief meeting. he and his friend, noa, were elected to hunt down the required objects at the mall, and they were to bring them to school tomorrow. setsuna did not understand why sousuke keigo, the council president, asked them to buy scented candles and air freshener, but he decided against questioning the older male. he slipped his bag over his head and adjusted its placement until he deemed it comfortable. violet tinted eyes scanned the rapidly emptying classroom until he spotted the council vice-president, akiyama noa. he practically bounced over to her and waited impatiently next to her desk; he valiantly fought the urge to fidget or jump in place. ready to go? he asked while tilting his head slightly toward the open door. strands of black hair disrupted his vision, and pale fingers brushed the annoying bangs behind his ear. his lower lip jutted out to form a pout as his hair refused to stay put. after a few more attempts to force his hair to cooperate, the blackette gave up on the seemingly impossible tasked and focused his attention back on noa, but he quickly grew bored with watching her pack and began fiddling with the paper in his hands. do our classmates remind you of puppets? he inquired while carefully folding their shopping list into increasingly smaller squares.
ooc: i don't know why suna is this random, but he is. sorry for the epic fail of a post, and i have no idea why i thought keigo would ask for scented candles and air freshener.

sitting in the classroom, doodling in her notebook, paying attention to about half of what the teacher said. probably not the best way for the student council vice-president to behave. she should have been paying attention properly. but sometimes it was just so hard to focus. drawing was much more interesting that anything being said in the classroom. though she did manage to pay attention enough that when she was called on for something, she could answer properly. that didn't happen very often. only once or twice.
when a pencil rolled across the floor, she was probably the only one in the room who didn't instantly turn to look at setsuna. and when she did, she felt bad for him. all he'd done was drop a pencil, it was nothing that deserved every eye in the room. people could be quite rude and unfriendly sometimes. but at least someone had picked the pencil up for him. had they not, she'd have had to get up and do it herself. she wouldn't have minded that, but it was nice that someone else did it instead.
noa didn't turn back towards the front of the class until after the boy had taken back his pencil. she smiled before going back to her doodles, occasionally looking out of the window. there wasn't much time left in the day before she'd be out there herself. heading off to the mall to pick up some things for the council, alongside her friend setsuna. she wasn't quite sure why they'd been the one's chosen to go, but she figured keigo knew what he was doing. besides, it would be fun. she always had a lot of fun hanging out with the council secretary.
they were to pick up the items on the list and bring them to school tomorrow. she didn't have the list, setsuna did, but she'd read over it when they'd been given the task. it had some rather... peculiar items on it. items she wouldn't have thought the president would need. it had things from the other members as well but keigo's stood out. maybe because he'd asked for scented candles and air freshener. what could he need with those? well. air freshener she could maybe understand. but the candles?
when the bell finally went off, she started to put away her things. closing her notebook of doodles, she looked up at her impatient friend and giggled. "i'm going, i'm going." she could tell he was trying hard not jump and fidget. it kept a grin on her face as she packed her things up quickly, kipping her bag and sending him a curious look as she stood from her seat. "puppets? i've never thought about it like that before but i guess they do resemble puppets."
picking up her bag, she put the strap over her shoulder. she adjusted it until the bag was situated properly, walking around to stand next to setsuna and watching as he folded the list up over and over again. he was the cutest. the little brother she'd never had, despite being in the same class as her. and he was definitely one of her favorite people to hang out with. there was never a moment when they weren't having fun. except maybe when she was tending to his injuries after he'd fallen or something. but even those situations could end up with them laughing.
heading towards the door, she smiled at him over her should. well, let's get going then. the list isn't going to get itself."

puppets or sheep though? setsuna inquired though he did not know whether he wanted a response or not. in his opinion, society robbed people of their individuality and tampered with their ability to think logically, for everyone wanted an easy solution. they no longer wanted to try their hardest or live their lives to the fullest. the media hypnotized them all into believing that they enjoyed their easy lives. the blackette thought that everyone should try their hardest in order to feel accomplished and have no regrets; however, he could only watch as everyone around him continued to drift through life without a goal. no one walked their own path in life. they all followed the same easy trail through the woods, for they lacked the will to chance the danger on their own. who was he to decide whether society resembled seep or puppets? he tried to place everyone into a generalization without counting the few that strayed away from the pack. setsuna frowned and shook his head, attempting to toss his thoughts away like a dog shaking the water off itself.
amethyst hued eyes shifted away from the folded list to land on the brunette, and his frown morphed into a brilliant smile. but it is. he held up the tiny triangle that he managed to create with the list. see? it caught itself, he explained while giggling softly. the blackette stuffed the paper triangle into his pocket after a few moments of staring intently at the unmoving object, and with it no longer in sight, he could focus his attention on his friend. his eyes suddenly widened as he remembered the name on his classmate’s—yoshihara ume’s—paper. the blackette stepped closer to noa and leaned to whisper in her ear, oh, did you know yoshihara-chan has a crush on jinguuji-sensei? after voicing his question, the young council secretary moved to exit the classroom because they did need to reach the mall at some point today, but he only turned to see if noa was following after reaching the open door.
come on, noa. sousuke-san will be angry if we don’t follow through on his orders, he called out while practically bouncing up-and-down where he stood. despite the occasional hazard, setsuna loved his responsibilities as the secretary of the student council. plus he got to spend even more time with noa because of their involvement with the council, and he could not help giggling gleefully at that fact. sometimes he wished that he could spend even more time with the brunette than he did. he often contemplated asking her over to spend the weekend with him and his family, but he did not know if she would agree. the blackette thought his family would adore her; however, he lacked the confidence to ask. blood crept toward his cheeks and painted them a faint pink color as he fiddled with the sleeves of his baby blue jacket. maybe he should focus on the task at hand. shopping could not be so hard after all; they did have a list.
setsuna tilted his head toward the door with a slight frown on his face. where did he put the list? his expression slowly grew more panicked as his mind continued to draw a blank. noa? he called out hesitantly while his wide eyes sought the brunette out. do you know where i put the list? the blackette prayed that she did, for they could not get everything without it. he did not remember any of the requested items despite the vague notion of the council president having requested unusual objects. pale fingers drifted up to clutch at the strap of his bag while his teeth pressed against his bottom lip. setsuna blinked a few times to stop the tears forming in his eyes, and he tried not to start apologizing repeatedly for such a colossal mistake. the blackette whimpered softly while lowering his gaze to rest on the ground. why did he always mess up?
ooc: pfft. they'll get out of the classroom soon... hopefully. -brick'd-

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,width: 460px; background-color: #ececec; padding: 10px; -webkit-border-radius: 2em; -moz-border-radius: 2em; ] oh goodbye days dakara ima ai ni yuk , so kimetanda , poketto , no kono kyouku wo , kimi ni kikasetai , sotto boryu-mu wo agete , tashikamete mitayo
she had to think about that one for a moment. both seemed to hold true now that she thought about it, at least a bit. they acted as they were told, doing things that others wanted rather than thinking for themselves and doing the things that made them happy. like they were a puppet, controlled by strings. or perhaps you could look at it as though they were being herded. made to follow a specific path, whether they wanted to or not. eventually, they simply gave up and allowed themselves to be lead down whatever road the shepherd pleased.
"whichever the case, they don't often think for themselves. they act as they're expected, never standing up and taking the path they'd like to take."
smiling, she had to admit to herself that she was also a part of all that. there were times when she only behaved the way others wanted her to. she just didn't let that stop her from doing the things she enjoyed. playing the guitar. having fun with her friends. and dreaming of fairy tales, no matter that they were impossible dreams. those were the things that set her apart from many of the mindless students that surrounded them everyday.
noa's head tilted slightly, unable to keep back the giggle as he held up the folded list. he was, by far, the cutest boy in the school. and she meant that in the truest of ways. there was a mutual attraction between the two of them, one that went beyond silly crushes and things like that. their love was of a stronger sort, familial. something irreplaceable and unbreakable. she felt as close to him as she did to either of her brother. maybe closer, even, since they spent so much time together at school.
leaning forward, she listened curiously to his whispered words. she had, indeed, not known about their classmate's crush on the councilor. jinguuji-sensei was the last person she'd expect someone to have a crush on. but, in all fairness, she'd never really spent any time with the man. so she really wasn't the one to judge. and she wasn't one to go by looks alone. not to mention she had little room to talk. in regards to having a crush on 'bad' people. "is that what she's always scribbling in her notebook?" she wasn't one to talk there, either. though, she stuck to hearts and flowers and a multitude of other little drawings. she didn't draw out names or anything like that.
giggling along with him, she made haste to catch up with her dear friend at the door. their president would, indeed, be quite angry with them if they didn't get the shopping done. when keigo gave them a task, he expected it to get done. and they did. usually. there were a few occasions when something happened and they couldn't finish things. and there were times when things were forgotten. the latter wasn't an excuse in his book though, of course. the former didn't always get you passed either.
"yeah, we don't need to have him angry with us. he's grumpy enough as it is. we'll get all this done and make him say 'thank you' tomorrow when we bring it all in."
despite how everyone might talk about the student council president, he held a lot of respect. she actually looked forward to seeing him after classes, when she headed to their council room. or was it that she looked forward to seeing all of the other council members? she was certain that both rang true. at least to some degree. she was also certain that, of them all, she enjoyed spending time with setsuna the most of them all. she was pulled out of these thoughts by said boy's panicked words.
noa's own eyes widened a fraction, instantly moving to pat him atop the head. "don't worry, suna-kun. you folded the list up and put it in your pocket. there's nothing to be upset about." she ruffled his hair a bit, smiling at him as she did. seeing him all worried and on the verge or tears always got her like that. she didn't like to see anyone hurt in any way. and seeing setsuna that way was much worse. she felt like she might cry herself, when she saw him blinking away tears.

the blackette hummed thoughtfully at noa’s words, but he did not voice a response. in fact, his thoughts had drifted far away from the similarities between their classmates and sheep or puppets. people would act as society dictated regardless of his opinion on the matter; however, his distraction resulted from having caught sight of a bunny shaped cloud floating lazily in the sky. he stared at the cloud in a mixture of awe and surprise. a few weeks had passed since the last time he decided to enjoy a day of cloud watching, and at the time, he did not catch sight of any particularly interesting looking clouds. his lower lip jutted out to form a pout as he murmured, on the one day that i forget to bring my camera to school. he shifted his arms to cross over his chest while his violet hued eyes continued to watch until the cloud disappeared from sight. without the cloud in sight, setsuna’s thoughts swiftly shifted back to the topic of yoshihara ume and her crush on the school councilor, jinguuji hayate.
unlike noa who had spent little time with the councilor, the aspiring photographer often visited the man’s office while hunting down paperwork that he never had completed on time, so setsuna found himself sitting in one of the chairs across from the councilor as the man hastened to finish and relinquish the paperwork to the blackette. therefore, the raven haired youth knew the truth behind the many vicious rumors circulating around ouran about jinguuji-sensei. the man was a terror to be around and teased people without mercy or care toward the other’s mental and emotional wellbeing, so he found his classmates crush on the brunette quite horrifying. true, setsuna realized that many people thought jinguuji-sensei looked incredibly handsome; however, the blackette thought the other man’s personality outweighed his good looks. he bobbed his head up and down three times in response to noa’s question and added, she even had her name scribbled down as jinguuji ume. the raven haired teen shuddered at the thought, and he hoped that the councilor never caught wind of his classmate’s crush. he did not relish the idea of seeing her in tears due to jinguuji-sensei’s dastardly ways.
while making his way toward the classroom door, the blackette found himself thinking back to the few times that he and noa had not completed their assigned tasks. he did not like disappointing the council president, and keigo hated their excuses. raven black locks shifted and brushed against setsuna’s features as he shook his head in an attempt to rid himself of unpleasant thoughts because he refused to entertain the notion that he and noa would fail. they had a simple task to complete, so it should not take all that long or be all that difficult. shopping for items on a list did not sound complicated. there would likely be no complications to distract them from their task, and it had been the easiest task out of those assigned to various council members for the next day’s meeting once classes ended. sousuke-san’s terrifying when he’s angry, the blackette murmured in response to noa’s statement since he agreed wholeheartedly with her statement regarding the outcome of their trip and response upon arriving to the council room tomorrow.
one tear rolled down setsuna’s pale cheek as noa reached his side at the classroom door. how could he have lost the list? their task had been so simple, and he managed to misplace the list before they even left the school. his friend’s response left him staring at her with wide eyes even as she reached out and ruffled his hair. his fingers searched through his pockets until they brushed against the small triangle that he had previously folded the list into, and setsuna immediately heaved a sigh in relief. one disaster had been successfully diverted by the council vice-president. the blackette prayed that there would not be anymore close calls; however, he could not help feeling like his momentary lapse in the location of the list was an ominous sign regarding their shopping expedition.
he reached out toward noa with a pale hand and let his fingers curl around the brunette’s hand. since we have the list, we had better hurry to the mall, the raven haired photographer exclaimed while tugging gently on his friend’s hand as he began to walk out of the classroom and into the hallway. to exit ouran academy, they needed to work their way down to the first floor where the first year classrooms resided and then walk to the main foyer of the school, but they would then need to reach the gates to officially leave ouran academy. we have quite the walk, so we’d better not waste anymore time, he chirped out cheerfully as he lead the way toward the staircase that would allow them to reach the first floor. as they walked, setsuna’s mind dragged up the memory of the bunny shaped cloud he spotted while they were in the classroom. the blackette turned his head slightly to study noa from his peripheral vision and added, guess what i saw before we left the classroom!

she had to admit, she could relate to ume. while she didn't doodle any names in her books, she did daydream. and she had, once or twice, tagged another's last name with her own given name. simply to see how it sounded. she'd never leave any proof of things like that, though. because she didn't want anyone finding out about it. especially since it was just that. daydreaming. "everyone can dream. perhaps that's as far as it will go. and perhaps he won't find out about it." she might not know the man at all, but she was sure of one thing. him finding out would end up hurting ume. one way or another.
with a smile on her face, she took his hand. it really was about time for them to get out of there. they had things to get done. because neither of them wanted to screw this up. even more so since they had to have it all done the next day. there'd be no time to make up for procrastinating. no way to make up for hanging around the classroom talking about this and that.
the two of them would never want to tick sousuke keigo off. doing so could prove fatal. and no one wanted anything fatal to happen. thus, they would have to get to the mall, purchase all of the items on the list, and then bring them along in the morning. very simple. "yes, let's hurry." she allowed herself to be pulled along, leaving the classroom behind them as they headed through the halls. "we've no time to waste." another smile as her steps quickened briefly before slowing to meet his.
noa did have a not so good feeling in the pit of her stomach, though. a feeling that told her something wasn't going to turn out quite right. she decided to ignore it, figuring it could have anything to do with today. what could possibly go wrong? picking up a few items from the mall wasn't difficult. remembering to bring them along the next day wouldn't be hard either, since they would be stored along with their bags over night. an easy reminder to grab them before heading out.
letting those thoughts slip away and into the recesses of her mind, she turned her full attention to setsuna again. "what was it you saw?" she couldn't recall having seen anything in the classroom. only the two of them, after the others had all left. no one else had lingered. so had it been something outside of the classroom? she hadn't looked out of the windows. and she hadn't been paying attention to anyone outside of the door.
