dark shadows chased after the terrified teen who raced down empty, grey streets with a full moon looming in the otherwise black sky, but the faint light only highlighted the multiple cracks and fissures in the sidewalk and buildings. each decrypt building stared hatefully at the fleeing blackette. when he attempted to hide within them, their doors remained locked, and once broken windows repaired themselves and refused to break again. setsuna stopped trying to hide after the fifth unyielding door because he merely wasted priceless seconds that allowed his tormentors to swallow a portion of the distance between them. adrenaline rushed through his veins even as his foot caught on one of the cracks. his hands shoot out to stop his fall, but they flailed uselessly in the air. he crashed to the ground and groaned in pain. laughter reached his ears as his tormentors slowed down and began to form a circle around him, and he whimpered in fear. when the apparent leader stepped closer, violet hued eyes snapped open to stare at his bedroom’s ceiling.
his heart beat wildly in his chest while shaking hands pushed the blankets away from his quivering body. setsuna turned and crawled toward the spots illuminated by the crescent moon hovering in the sky, but his gaze drifted to his alarm clock. midnight? he whispered in a mixture of surprise and resignation. the blackette curled into a ball and stared at his window while trying to forget about his nightmare. after seiki’s death, setsuna rarely managed to sleep through the night without a nightmare waking him up, and in the resulting panic, he tended to run into his parent’s room with tears rolling down his cheeks and nonsensical babbling flowing from his mouth. the nightmares dwindled down to nothing in the following months. his parents welcomed the end of his nightmares as they might manage to gain a full night’s rest, and they did. however, setsuna stopped running to their room in search of comfort.
amethyst hued eyes focused on his bedroom door whose edges were bathed in golden light. his body uncurled as he crawled to the edge of his bed and shifted to let his legs dangle of the side, and he cocked his head in thought while his hands clutched at the sheets covering his bed. … hot chocolate, he mumbled to himself. his feet settled on the fluffy black carpet, and he walked slowly toward his door. the chill of the wooden floors caused him to shiver after he left stepped off of his chosen rug. he did not stop though; he continued his journey out of his room, down the stairs, and into the kitchen. one pale finger flipped the light switch. setsuna blinked rapidly as he waited for his eyes to adjust to the light, and once they did, he began hunting the ingredients for a cup of wonderfully delicious hot coco.
with his mug of hot coco, the blackette padded into the living room and curled up in the comfortable, overstuffed chair. he watched the steam raising from the warm liquid, and he slowly lifted the mug to his lips before taking a cautious sip. the liquid burned his tongue despite his efforts to cool the beverage. setsuna lowered the mug and leaned further back into his seat. eventually, he chanced another sip of his drink, and after not burning his tongue for a second time, he greedily swallowed every last drop of his hot coco. he felt marginally better after downing his second cup of hot coco. chocolate—in any form—proved to be the best medicine for all life’s twists and turns and unexpected obstacles.
as he made his way back into the kitchen, he caught the sound of the front door opening and closing. setsuna set his mug in the sink before heading toward the stairs, but he had no idea who would be coming home this late. the blackette had been under the impression that everyone was home. petal pink lips curved into a frown as he reached the wooden staircase. violet colored eyes drifted up the staircase until they reached the petite blonde attempting to sneak into his bedroom; setsuan wondered why his adoptive older brother had arrived home at such a late hour. deah? he called out softly because he refused to remain ignorant and simply watch nadeah sneak away without answering his questions.
ooc: gah... such a horrid post.

It was strange, having to listen to your own footsteps echo in the midnight air, who could of imagined it would bring about such awful feelings of loneliness. He had never noticed how empty his own steps sounded until he was faced with defeat. A defeat he has wished to become a victory. Sad blue eyes turned to gaze down at the mobile phone he held against his chest. It was thirty minutes ago he had received a text message from his "family". They had told him, he could finally come home but he only had to wait for them at a park that was a mile away and wait there for one of his family members to arrive.
Time ticked by and no one had ever shown up. He had been so excited with the idea of making right with his family, that the mere idea of a prank call never occurred to him. The thought only past by his mind at a quarter till midnight that the message was a fake. His younger or older brother was screwing with him and one of them had thought it was a grand idea to torture him a bit more then normal.
Heart broken, Nadeah made his way back to his second home where he lived with Setsuna and his family. He had sneaked out of the house, thinking that everything was finally going to turn around. His family was going to accept him, apologize and make good once again. With his hopes destroyed, he stared down at the flashing screen of his phone. Staring at the bright words that spoke of him being taken back.
With a sigh, he snapped his phone closed and adjusted the coat on his body. It was a bit chillie out for a change and Nadeah hadn't thought his clothing through very well. He had left the house in a pair of shorts, his night shirt, shoes and a hoodie. Now he wished he had put on a pair of pants. Too late for that. Now he had bigger problems, such as sneaking back into the house.
He arrived on the doorstep a few moments before midnight and with his key, he entered his new home. Carefully, he pushed the door open as he whipped away the tears of frustration on his cheeks. With a small sniffle, he closed and locked the door. Hugging the hoodie to his small figure, he carefully ascended the stairs. Taking care not to make a single sound.
His efforts were futile. As soon as he hit the top stair, he hear his name being called out in confusion. His heart stopped for a split second. He turned his head to look over his shoulder. Eyes quickly spotted Setsuna and Deah felt like he had been stabbed in the heart. He was ashamed for having sneaked out of the house. This hadn't been the first time he had done it as in the past his brothers toyed with him after he had been taken in by Suna's parents. Eventually, he had stopped responding to the idea of his family calling but now that it happened again after so many years, he felt rather stupid.
One hand held the railing on the stairs as the other still held his phone to his chest as he turned to face his adoptive brother. "Su-su." He whispered cheerfully with a small laugh as the nickname he dubbed Setsuna with rolled off the tongue with ease. "What are you doing up so late? Did I wake you?" No, he knew he didn't. It wasn't uncommon for Suna to be up at this hour. His poor friend must of had a nightmare. Knowing he was about to lose to the other and any story he might come up with would fail, he moved back down the stairs carefully.
"Do you want to sleep with me tonight?" He asked, trying to forget his own personal issues and play the role of a loving brother who wanted his younger one to feel better and to sleep well. But he also, selfishly, did not want to be confronted or asked what was wrong with himself. He was sure he looked absolutely horrible and hoped Setsuna wouldn't notice from the poor lighting.

violet hued eyes continued to study the petite blonde as nadeah slowly turned to face the blackette. setsuna was not angry at his adoptive older brother for sneaking out, and he would never judge the older male no matter what happened. his petal pink lips curved into a slight smile at the nickname nadeah used. warmth spread through his body as the other teen began to descend the stairs. setsuna had caught the blonde a few times in the past trying to sneak back into the house after leaving, and he rarely pressed the issue. however, years of not catching nadeah creeping back into the house at odd hours destroyed his careful hold over his own curiosity. worry gnawed at his heart, for he knew that his adoptive older brother wanted his birth family to accept him. he hated the fact that he did not want the blonde to be accepted because he was afraid that nadeah would stop caring about him and the rest of his family. he never mentioned this fact or his fear to his older brother despite the constant guilt that tugged at his mind whenever he caught sight of nadeah, and he had gotten quite good at hiding his guilt from sight.
raven black locks of hair shifted as setsuna shook his head in response to nadeah’s question. his smile dulled slightly as he crossed his arms over his chest and drummed his fingers lightly against his upper arm. i woke up from a nightmare, so you didn’t wake me up. i was about to head upstairs again when i heard the door opening, the blackette replied while tilting his head to the side. amethyst colored eyes studied the blonde, and he instantly noticed the other’s outfit and the tear tracks on his cheeks. nadeah looked exhausted though setsuna could not decide whether it was physical or emotional exhaustion due to the late hour; however, his instincts seemed more inclined toward the latter.
setsuna reached out and grabbed nadeah’s hand with his own even as the blonde voiced his next question. maybe, he murmured softly while tugging gently on the blonde’s hand as he took a step toward the kitchen. i’m not quite sure yet, but i’ll let you know before we head back upstairs. you look like you could use a cup of hot coco, the blackette added while continuing to work his way back toward the kitchen. he released his grip on the blonde’s hand once he stepped over into the still brightly lit kitchen, and the young photographer easily maneuvered his way around as he set about to preparing another batch of hot coco. setsuna knew that nadeah probably did not want to answer questions about his whereabouts; however, the dark haired teen thought it was time for him to be a bit selfish and push for an answer from the blonde. honestly, nadeah’s friend, kira, might have been a better person to help nadeah deal with whatever happened to him. kira did not live at the kyougoku manor though, so it was useless to dwell over whether he or kira would offer better emotional support to nadeah.
as he stirred the two mugs of hot coco, setsuna turned his head slightly to watch the blonde out of his peripheral vision. do you want to talk about what happened tonight? he inquired softly as he finished with the drinks. he tapped the spoons lightly against the rims of the mugs to dislodge a few extra drops of the heavenly beverage before tossing both into the sink. his pale fingers wrapped tightly around both warm mugs before he padded over to nadeah’s side and held out one of the mugs toward the blonde. after being relieved of one of the drinks, the blackette lead the blonde into the living room. he plopped down on one end of the couch, and he instantly shifted to have his legs curled under his body and back nestled between the back and arm of the sofa. did you go to meet someone? a friend? girlfriend? setsuna paused and let his gaze shift to rest on nadeah, and he fought off the urge to shiver in fear as he thought over the remaining option. the raven haired youth lifted his mug to his lips and quickly downed a few gulps of the hot beverage; however, he ignored the burning sensation of the liquid hitting his tongue. yes, he wanted answers, but he did not want to know whether nadeah had gained acceptance from his birth family or not. setsuna did not think he could handle the consequences of if the blonde had been.
