[atrb=valign, top] He wasn't so sure that he would ever come around to being used to the differences in vacation time. If he could really even call it vacation time. He pinched the bridge of his nose, pushing his glasses further up. Sundays, he thought, could hardly even be called a weekend. He knew that school was important, but would giving him at least a two day break too much to ask for? Probably. He sighed, shaking his head clear of such dismal thoughts. Thinking about it and complaining about it was hardly anything productive, he thought. Besides, he should have just been thankful that it wasn't raining. The sky was clear and without a cloud in the sky, sun not yet beating down on his back.
If he was only allowed one day of freedom, he was thankful that it did not keep him inside more than he was already obligated to.
He drew in a deep breath, resting his hands on his hips as he glanced at the untouched track ahead of him. It was a great day to run too. He moved a bit uneasily in his beaten down shoes, grinding the soles further into the worn pavement. Pebbles crunched beneath his weight. He had been waiting for the other track members to arrive but he supposed that like most others; they had taken the day off. After all, he supposed there was a line to be drawn after spending nearly every three hours after school with the silver haired man. Oh well. He shifted, feet resting in the gravel for a bit longer before the man took off down the pathway.
God, it felt great to run like this again. The wind blowing at his face, brushing through his hair. The faster he ran, the more it felt like he was flying. Was that a strange thought to have? Flying, that was. He wasn't sure himself. It had been the best part of running like this. Though, he supposed it wasn't one of those things that he could ever get around to admitting. It was a little embarrassing now that he thought about it. ...though, unfortunately for him; he had been doing everything but paying attention to just exactly where he was going.
Wide, aquamarine eyes only grew larger as a foreign body came into view. His legs were moving faster than he could stop. His legs skid to a stop, upper body failing to drag behind with the rest of him. Crap, crap, crap! His lips parted to administer a warning, though clearly not early enough. His body collided with the stranger's before ultimately hitting the ground. He groaned, wincing slightly as Kazehaya moved to get up. Oh yeah, he was going to feel that in the morning tomorrow. He mumbled incoherently, hand lowering to rub his back. Geez, he really needed to watch where he was going. He was definitely going to get someone hurt one day if not himself fir- oh! Oh gosh! That poor person!
He fumbled, hands shooting to the ground to pick up his glasses and return them to his face before he crawled over to check on the person he had run into. Oh gosh, he hoped that they weren't mad at him or anything. Maybe he could make it up to them or something... ugh. He hoped as much anyway. "H- Hey, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" He stammered out quickly, digging through his pockets to find any napkins in case something had happened. "I didn't mean to run into you. I was thinking about stuff and we- |
" He stopped speaking, his panic having had settled just a little bit. Kaze merely cracked a small smile as he lifted a hand to rub the back of his head a bit awkwardly. " Do you need help up, otouto?" He teased gently. sunlight crept slowly across the wooden floorboards until reaching the beginnings of a large, circular black rug, and with each passing minute, the light slipped higher and higher until it spilled across the bed located in the center of the black void. in the middle of the bed, blankets shifted as the occupant released a soft groan of annoyance due to the sunlight shining directly in his eyes. sheets rubbed against each other as the young teen turned around to face away from the window; however, moments after resuming a comfortable position and attempting to drift off into the realm of dreams, his alarm clock decided to make itself known as it blared to life with its incessant beeping. fine, fine, a tired voice slurred as the lump on the bed flipped over again and reached a searching hand out to turn off the annoying piece of machinery. once quiet returned to the room, setsuna heaved a sigh of both relief and discontent before rolling over until he nearly fell off his own bed; however, he managed to stop himself by grabbing onto his blankets. gingerly, he let his legs dangle off the bed and then pushed his upper body up so that he was sitting on the edge of his wonderful, warm bed.
no use in sulking, he lectured himself before vaulting his body off the bed. his landing nearly caused him to collide with his bedroom floor, but he managed to maintain his balance with a few hasty hops and windmill arm motions. close, he breathed out while reaching up to run a hand through his hair. setsuna meandered over to his closet and began riffling through his clothes until he found something suitable for his planned excursion to the park for a nice, peaceful day of taking pictures. the blackette paused as he heard the familiar creeks of the house and footsteps walking past his bedroom door; however, no one came inside the room. he assumed that it was merely his father getting up and ready for his day at work. nadeah and sora would never wake up this early in the morning on a sunday, and his mother rarely managed to drag herself out of bed until noon. with thoughts of his family’s sleeping habits in mind, the aspiring photographer headed into his bathroom to get ready for the day.
approximately thirty minutes later found setsuna walking into the kitchen and greeting his still half-asleep father with a small, awkward smile. the older male grumbled to himself while turning his back on his son and continuing to gulp down cups of coffee, and the blackette sighed and grabbed an apple before searching out a piece of paper and pen. he located the mentioned objects in the den and quickly jotted down a note regarding his whereabouts; he did not want nadeah or sora to worry about him when they woke up and he was not in his room. venturing back into the kitchen, he pinned the note to the refrigerator with a magnet and then slipped past his more awake father and out of the house.
violet hued eyes swept across the yard while the various manor attendants shouted their greetings to him, for they liked the young master more than his father. setsuna smiled brightly at them all and waved at each person who decided to speak out to him. for three minutes, the blackette stood on the doorstep shifting his weight from foot to foot and trying to decide which direction would offered a quicker walk to his destination, but he ended up deciding to let his feet take him there. the gorgeous red apple in his hand issued a resounding crunch as his teeth broke through the skin, and the juice rolled down the side of the apple as setsuna pulled away to chew on his piece. like a hungry lion, he quickly devoured the apple and tossed the core into the nearest trash can. with nothing left to do with his hands, he began fiddling with his camera as he walked, and the fiddling quickly escalated to actual picture taking as he drew closer to the park.
due to his attention being focused on his camera, setsuna failed to note his arrival at his destination or the person running on the track. he only noticed when he felt the other male’s body collided with his own and send him crashing down to the ground, and he remained in a motionless heap on the ground as his brain attempted to decipher what happened. violet colored eyes snapped open at the sound of his companion’s voice, and setsuna forced his protesting body into an upright position. his gaze shifted over to the silver haired male as he voiced his question, and the blackette practically beamed in pure joy once his rattled mind placed a name to the familiar face. onii-san! he exclaimed joyfully while quickly jumping up from the ground and bounding closer to the older male. did you come here to run? were you planning to meet with anyone? do you want to walk around with me? i wanted to take pictures of the park today, so i got up extra early despite it being a sunday. setsuna practically bounced up and down as he jabbered away until he needed to stop for air, so he remained quiet and watchful as he waited for kazehaya to answer his questions.

[atrb=valign, top] He paid very little attention to when he began running. If people were in his way, he didn't doubt for even a moment that he'd plow them over beneath his feet. Did that make him dangerous? Eh, he never really knew himself. After all, if people didn't see him then that was on them for being in his way. Okay, maybe that was a little cruel. He didn't want to hurt anyone after all. Maybe he really should have started paying more attention instead of going off into his own little world. Ugh, whatever. He'd have to think about that another time. He was in the company of another person after all. And getting caught up in his thoughts was definitely not a good thing at all.
Kazehaya could only smile a bit sheepishly when the other had, already, began running his mouth. Tsu was a sweet kid, definitely so! ...just talked really fast. So to speak anyway. He didn't talk particularly often in class, but he supposed that was more or less because class was a different setting than the outside world was. Most people were thrown off by merely running into their teacher outside in public after all. In this case? Yeah, probably not. "Otouto, don't speak so quickly. |
" He said, a teasing tone lying beneath his voice. He lifted a hand to the other's hair, ruffling it gently. " No one's ever going to be able to catch what you're saying." Ack, what had he even asked to begin with? He couldn't even really think. Did he hit his head harder than he thought? Did this mean he was going to die a year earlier? He paled at the thought. He had no intentions of dying early. He had heard about things like that on the news once or twice! Hitting your head frequently shortened your life span! ...or was... was it something else? Gah, it didn't matter right now! Panic settled into this pit of his stomach. He didn't want to die. He could have very well started crying right then and there. But. Tsu. ...therefore, he couldn't cry. Older brothers didn't cry, right? Of course not! Not that his sister cared any more or less. The woman picked on him regardless. " Um. I came to run. My track team was supposed to meet me if they did want to run but no one showed up so I ended up running on my own." His words slurred together, leaving the man wondering just how the other managed to speak so quickly. It was hard living in Japan, he thought. The teacher merely hung his head in shame for a moment as he thought over his next words. A walk? Sure, he couldn't say that he really minded it! " Okay! It's better than walking around on my own." He grinned, placing his hands onto the ground and pushing himself onto his feet. Maybe they could get ice cream later or something. He wasn't really sure. He offered his hand out to the other, glancing around the generally empty park. " C'mon, then. Should I be a model too?" He could only laugh. He thought it was funny anyway. setsuna’s bottom lip jutted out to form a pout as kazehaya reached over and ruffled his hair, and the blackette immediately attempted to back away from the other. he continued to pout as he lifted his hands up and attempted to fix the devastation wrought by the silver haired male’s inane urge to tease him. mou… he whined softly while letting his hands drop back to his side and giving up on his hair. violet tinted eyes drifted back over to his teacher while he shifted his arms to cross over his chest, and he valiantly fought against the childish urge to act immature and stick out his tongue. he was sixteen; such foolishness should be beneath him. the blackette stood there for a few seconds before caving to his urge and sticking his tongue out at the older male. onii-san, you should get your ears checked. i don’t talk that fast, he added once he retracted his tongue and resumed his former pout, for his hair still refused to lay correctly. his inner child wanted to blame someone and sulk. seeing as he had already surrendered to that side, setsuna decided to allow his foolish urges to show through. kazehaya would not judge him for it.
pitch black locks flopped into setsuna’s eyes as he tilted his head to the side and thought over kazehaya’s statement. people generally tended to respond to his ramblings without difficulty, but he noticed that they rarely kept up with how rapidly he switched between topics of conversation. perhaps kazehaya merely had problems with deciphering his constant babbling due to his minimal exposure to japanese. most people in japan spoke quite rapidly, so the problem resided with the silver haired professor, not him. setsuna grinned in triumph due to his newfound revelation; however, the words died before even leaving his mouth. amethyst hued eyes followed the monarch butterfly whose wings beat slowly while it perched on the vibrant green leaf belonging to a nearby shrug. look, look. it’s a monarch butterfly, he exclaimed while gesturing toward the insect, and within moments, he fingers clutched at his camera and brought it into position. he prayed that the butterfly would not fly away as he focused the camera on the creature, and the device flashed once. like the ticking of a click, a sudden breeze caused the butterfly to abandon its perch and disappear into the depths of ueno park. the blackette studied the image on his camera before nodding his head once and releasing the device which dropped and hit his chest a few times before returning to its previous motionless state.
so they decided against extra practice? he asked with his smile morphing into a confused frown. do they care if they win or not? wide violet tinted eyes stared unblinkingly at the english professor while setsuna attempted to understand this newly divulged information. in his opinion, people should practice as much as physically possible in order to be the absolute best that they are capable to become, so the absence of the track team seemed odd. he sighed once while staring at the ground, and a few heartbeats later, he added, and most people catch what I say. they just don’t keep up with the topic changes, but you have trouble catching what i say. this means that we should work on your exposure to japanese since most everyone talks fast. his gaze settled on kazehaya through his bangs while he tapped his fingers against the track. the sunlight pierced through the clouds and settled on the pair. birds continued to chirp, and the breeze left the wonderful aroma of flowers in its wake. setsuna remembered hearing that the day would be perfect for outdoor activities from the weather report the night before, and he agreed wholeheartedly with the statement. when kazehaya’s voice sounded again, setsuna ceased tapping and focused on the silver haired male. wonderful! the blackette exclaimed while clapping his hands together in glee.
he watched as kazehaya stood up and then offered him a hand, and the blackette wasted no time accepting the proffered assistance. with the other’s help, setsuna once again resumed a vertical position; however, he did not relinquish his hold on kazehaya’s hand. and wasn’t the monarch butterfly beautiful? he asked while attempting to drag the older male along. he wanted to get a few pictures by the lake, and they should stop by the playground. maybe they could even hunt down the ice cream stand. oh! yes, it’d be fun to get some pictures of you. i can add to my collection. i wonder if i have enough to make a scrapbook… he trailed off in thought, but he shook his head seconds later when he caught the faint strands of the song played by ice cream vehicles. let’s go get some ice cream! he switched directions and began bounding away from kazehaya after releasing the older male’s hand. he giggled happily as he turned around and shouted, come on, onii-san!

[atrb=valign, top] it was kind of fun getting to pick on his cute little brother. well. so to speak. it wasn't as though they were actually related but it was just really hard not to tease him at least a little, right? kazehaya laughed, smiling a little bit as he watched the other give up on his hair. it wasn't like that big of a deal, he thought. he could fix it or whatever. just. he didn't feel like doing it though. the teacher merely laughed, resting his hands on his hips and leaning forward a little bit. he wasn't feeling super mature either. he stuck out his tongue before he drew back a little. "i beg to differ. i don't ever really know what you're saying half of the time! |
" er. well. not that he ever really knew what anyone was saying. it was hard to make sense of what was going on. most of the people spoke so quickly that he couldn't keep up. it wasn't his native language. but he supposed it was fair enough. they probably thought he spoke too fast when he was teaching. then again, some of these kids had been learning english since the beginning of time. ugh, it was hard to think. he didn't want to blame it on himself but he supposed that he couldn't. his parents had dragged him and his siblings to japan and most of them barely spoke a lick of japanese. he had picked it up quicker of course but. god, it was hard to understand when everyone was talking a mile a minute. " you do too!" he said exasperated, hanging his head in shame. the other failed to speak, the silver haired man lifting his head to find what had obscured his attention. a butterfly? he watched, following shortly behind the other before the small creature fluttered away from them both. he hadn't seen butterflies for the longest time. he wasn't even sure why part of him thought that butterflies to exist in the east. he merely nodded in reply, shrugging his shoulders. " it is kind of early for a sunday." he replied, laughing softly. he couldn't blame them. it had been pretty hard to drag himself out of bed that morning. he wasn't even sure if it was worth moving for in the end. but he supposed he couldn't mind it terribly. if the track team was here, then he wouldn't have been allowed to wander off with his cute little brother. " i think they do, haha. i can't blame them for not getting up though. i almost asked for six am but they'd probably complain the whole time anyway." he smiled, squeezing the other's hand gently before heading in the direction of the nearest ice cream cart. they always had one out and about around this time of day, didn't they? what would he even get anyway? strawberry? chocolate? maybe he should have gotten cookies n' cream or something. did they even have those? or did they have mango or something? or maybe just classic vanilla. decisions, decisions... wait. what? had he been talking? " it was really pretty! i haven't seen any butterflies in ages." a scrapbook, huh? he couldn't say that he really minded that. ahh, he was such an adorable little brother. ...theoretical little brother. he sighed, closing his eyes before moving to follow after the other. he rummaged through his pockets to look for his wallet before chasing after the other. " ne, otouto! don't run, you're going to fall! ... w- wait up!" he supposed this was a nice way to spend his morning. running and everything was fun. but he supposed that running just alone wasn't really fun either, he thought. " what are you going to get anyway?!" deciding ice cream flavors was important after all. it was practically a decision between life and death. well. okay. maybe not that dramatic. setsuna giggled softly as kazehaya stuck out his tongue in retaliation to his own childish action. the silver haired professor tended to indulge the blackette and always brightened setsuna’s days with his happy-go-lucky nature, so it rarely surprised the raven haired teen when his english teacher gave into his own childish urges. in fact, kazehaya’s minimal exposure to the japanese culture meant that the older man tended to prefer less formal situations and mannerisms. when setsuna first sat through one of kazehaya’s classes, his teacher’s friendly, upbeat nature and preference toward a more laidback atmosphere had surprised the blackette; however, he quickly managed to ignore his shock and found himself enjoying spending time with the odd professor. over time, he came to view kazehaya as an adoptive older brother. the classification helped explain why they spent so much time together outside of the classroom since his classmates never understood why he would voluntarily spend time with a professor when not in class. the blackette giggled again at the silver haired male’s statement. but you never understand half of what anyone tells you, he corrected with a teasing lilt to his voice. he sometimes wondered if kazehaya would ever get used to the speed that native japanese speakers spoke with, but the only way to find out was to keep chattering on about everything and nothing.
to be honest, setsuna knew that some of his classmates had trouble keeping up with kaehaya when he spoke in english, but the blackette found that he picked up other languages far easier than any other subjects in school. he struggled terribly to remember anything in history. it was just so confusing trying to remember who did what and what happened when, so his constant confusion was understandable. he doubted it helped that his own thoughts tended to be highly scrambled and hard to understand. plus he panicked during tests which resulted in his brain shutting down and hindering him from remembering even the most insignificant of facts, so his history grade could do with improvement. the young photographer continued to pout as he mimicked kazehaya and let his head hang in shame. why is history so hard to keep straight? he mused aloud while resisting the urge to throw up his arms in a combination of exasperation and confusion.
the butterfly’s appearance snapped him away from his gloomy thoughts regarding history and his grade in that class, and he was quite pleased with the picture he captured of the creature. of course, he preferred collecting pictures of his friends and family since he originally dived into photograph because he wanted to preserve his memories. setsuna hummed softly to himself as his thoughts drifted to the various photo albums that he had been putting together the night before. he hoped kazehaya would like the one for him that the blackette nearly finished piecing together; however, he did not know when to give the album to the older male. one pale finger reached up to tap lightly against his chin while he tried to remember when the next track meet would be. maybe the album would be a perfect gift if the track team won the meet. when’s the next track meet? he asked with violet hued eyes returning to the silver haired male.
true dedication means that they would come no matter how early on any day of the week, setsuna stated while continuing to lead kazehaya toward the nearest ice cream stand. he wanted the sweet treat to help combat the slight heat of the morning sun, and he really did not care whether the track team had come or not. true, he thought their dedication to the sport lacking; however, he could not judge them based on one decision to skip out on additional practice. plus if the track team had come, the blackette would not have the opportunity to spend more time with his adoptive older brother. he should be thanking them for not showing up, not criticizing them. amethyst tinted eyes lit up in glee as kazehaya commented on the monarch butterfly setsuna had caught on film. i have a few more pictures of butterflies on my camera, he stated proudly while lifting up the mentioned camera with his free hand. butterflies are gorgeous, but the pictures can become repetitive. it’s more fun to take photos of squirrels or other people. setsuna turned his head slightly to look at kazehaya as he added, and it’s even better to take pictures of people i know. i’m so happy that you agreed to model for some!
laughter escaped the blackette as he whirled around to walk backwards and keep his gaze focused on the silver haired teacher. i won’t fall, he argued with a slight frown adorning his effeminate features. his words proved to be false when he tripped over an unseen root from a nearby tree. he landed on his bottom for the second time that morning, and his hands ached at the sudden pain racing up through his arms since he attempted to ease the landing by holding out his palms to crash against the ground. setsuna smiled sheepishly up at kazehaya as the other male drew closer to where he sat on the ground, and blood painted his cheeks a rosy red color. oops, he mumbled softly while lifting his hands off the ground and trying to brush the dirt off his palms by rubbing them against his jeans.
either chocolate or cookies and cream or mint chocolate chip, he stated with an indecisive frown replacing his smile even as he continued to sit on the ground and make no movement toward joining kazehaya in remaining vertical from the ground. maybe he should invest in buying a bubble. he might not fall down as often if he did, but he thought the bubble would be far to extreme of a measure to take. should i invest in my own personal bubble? he asked since he could not come up with an answer on his own, and kazehaya always attempted to help even if his advice was not always that suited for his current problems.
